NORTHROP GRUMMAN AT GRAND SKY PHASE I & II
GRAND FORKS, ND
Northrop Grumman’s newest facility is the first facility on the Grand Sky UAS Business Park near the Air Force base in Grand Forks, North Dakota. This building is dedicated to fostering autonomous systems and other capabilities. The facility serves as a nucleus for research and development, pilot, operator and maintainer training along with operations and mission analysis, and aircraft maintenance. The intent is for the building to be flexible and accommodating to current and future Northrop Grumman programs and outside customers. To achieve this, ICON defined key core spaces that supported a certain classification level. As collaborative working environments became more and more popular, ICON knew it was important to incorporate modular office systems that are capable of reconfiguration for the new building to meet the newest standard and foster employee success and collaboration.
For Northrop Grumman to best serve its clients, it was important to incorporate classrooms and training spaces throughout the building for meetings and other gatherings. The building also features a two-story curtain wall atrium lobby highlighted by a steel framed tower, LED-wrapped bridge that connects the public space with secure space, and a constant view of the alert pad. During the design process, green design elements were integrated to the point where the facility earned LEED Certification. Phase II of the project includes a hangar and additional office space.
