The Center for Innovation in Grand Forks, North Dakota provides space for emerging entrepreneurs with innovative ideas and the guidance of successful entrepreneurs who serve as mentors and advisors. The Center’s goal is to aid innovators, entrepreneurs, and researchers in launching new ventures and securing access to capital from both private and public sources. The building was designed to showcase the latest building technologies, LEED building practices, and innovative products and technologies. Artists’ work was integrated into the earliest stages of the design process to ensure the artwork was cohesive with the other interior elements. The building features flexible office layouts designed to accommodate a variety of businesses. The Idea Lab is a flexible conference space with video-conferencing capabilities that is used for board meetings, ceremonies, and other events. The facility also features a retractable ceiling with programmed LED lighting. The facility features a server room that includes a dry sprinkler system to protect the equipment from water damage in the event of a fire.
