ICON was selected to lead the team for a facility assessment of the existing Mandan High School and Brave Center. The facility assessment was commissioned to assist the School District with long-range planning and to address increasing enrollment, changing educational requirements, and aging facilities. Once the assessment was complete, it was decided by Mandan Public Schools the best path forward was to build a new high school. ICON partnered with MPS throughout the preferendum phase, assisting with communication materials, public meetings, and stakeholder design sessions. The vote passed with a 72% approval rate.

The new high school includes a large, centrally-located commons space that houses food services, concessions, and school store. Instructional spaces feature 47 classrooms, collaboration rooms, corridor study halls, staff rooms, testing center, and open commons area. The CTE area holds 5 shop rooms with accompanied classrooms for agriculture, tech and engineering, welding, and construction tech, 2 art rooms and FACS rooms, and a health careers classroom and lab. The gymnasium features an indoor track, wrestling room, weight room, locker rooms, coaches’ rooms, and officials’ rooms. In addition, the school holds an auditorium that seats up to 800 people with an upper balcony.
