Q&A with Tanner: Insights from a Newly Licensed Architect

What inspired you to pursue architecture, and how has that inspiration evolved over time?

Legos and growing up friends with the Schoen family and seeing an architect as a normal guy made it feel accessible.

What was the most challenging part of the licensure process, and how did you overcome it?

I am terrible at tests. Trial and error. Failing 3 tests and then figuring out what I needed to do to be prepared.

How has ICON’s Emerge program helped you on your journey to becoming a licensed architect?

The study resources were very valuable as were the discussions with other candidates about testing and study strategies.

What project or type of design are you most excited to work on in your career?

Athletics projects like PACA and Memorial Village.

What advice would you give to aspiring architects who are working toward their licensure?

Take tests as close together as possible to avoid losing momentum.

As he embarks on this new chapter, we look forward to seeing the innovative and meaningful spaces Tanner will create. His talent and dedication will continue to shape the future of design at ICON Architectural Group.

Congratulations, Tanner!
